Asus Transformer Book T100HA launched in India

February 4, 2016 by Ankush Mahajan

Asus has introduced the Transformer Book, T100HA to India at a price of Rs 23,990. The two-in-one convertible integrates four neodymium magnets to connect the tablet and the keyboard.

The hybrid features a 10.1-inch detachable LED back-lit display with a 1280×800 HD resolution at a pixel density of 129 ppi. It is powered by Intel’s 64bit quad-core Atom X5-Z8500 processor supported by 2GB RAM and provides 64GB storage. The tablet includes a 2MP front camera and a 5MP rear camera. It has a variety of USB ports, namely 1x Type-C, 1x USB 2.0 and 1x micro USB along with a micro HDMI port.

In terms of software, the T100HA runs Windows 10 and comes pre-installed with MS Office for productivity purposes.

All of the above is powered by a 30Watt 2-cell, which on a single charge gives battery life of up to 12 hours. The Transformer weighs a light 1kg altogether.

The Asus T100HA is available in Tin Grey and Aqua Blue colour variants.

New Skylake laptops from Asus boast stunning 4K displays and cinematic sound

November 24, 2015 by Darren Allan

There are two Windows 10 notebooks being launched – the 15.6-inch N552 and a larger 17.3-inch N752 model. Both of these offer very tasty screens, namely IPS panels with up to 4K resolution (for a super-sharp pixel density of 282 ppi in the case of the 15-inch model).

The display also boasts an ultra-wide colour gamut of 100% sRGB and 74% Adobe RGB coverage, meaning colours are impressively vibrant and accurate (an ‘Eye Care’ mode is also present to reduce levels of blue light by up to a third, helping to combat eye fatigue – this is becoming more and more common with computer screens).

Powering this you get a Skylake Core i7 processor backed by up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and on the graphics front there’s an Nvidia GTX 960M for pixel shifting duties. Level loading times certainly won’t be sluggish either, given that you get a PCIe x4 SSD on board (up to 512GB in size).

Asus also wants to have some impressive sound for your games and films as well, incorporating SonicMaster front-facing speakers to deliver clear vocals and deep bass, the company claims (although there’s always a limit to the low-end sonic power a notebook can manage to muster).

There are six preset audio modes so you can switch between them as necessary depending on whether you’re listening to a ‘banging tune’ or blazing away with a submachine gun in an online shooter.

These are smart looking machines, featuring an aluminium lid and keyboard surround, along with a ripple effect design around the speaker grilles, and a softly illuminated logo on the laptop lid.

As well as a light on the lid, you also get a backlit keyboard, and Asus claims the ergonomically designed keys provide a comfortable typing experience. There is a sizeable trackpad on board too.

As for the launch date of these machines, Asus has yet to confirm that or indeed the pricing. Given the components on board, particularly if you load these laptops up with RAM and storage, they’re obviously not going to be cheap…

Asus reveals ZenWatch 2 release details – and it’s brilliantly-priced

September 2, 2015 by Dan Grabham

The ZenWatch 2 again runs Android Wear, is powered by a Qualcomm chip and features longer battery life than its predecessor (up to 400mAh), with a new crown button and pogo-pin charger.

There’s now support for Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth, while there are also now two different sizes like the Apple Watch (49.6 x 40.7mm and 45.2 x 37.2mm with 320×320 or 280×280 pixel displays). It’s also water resistant and there’s 4GB of memory on board.

The ZenWatch 2 will be available in October, starting at a remarkably cheap 149 Euros (Rs. 11,000) for the smaller model and 169 Euros (Rs. 12,500) for the bigger version. Asus reckons you can get around 60 hours of standby time from it.

Another very interesting consumer product is the new VivoStick PC. It  essentially looks like a more stylish Chromecast but with two USB ports and full Windows 10 on board.

For the players

Asus also spoke about its Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand, revealing a new “plasma copper, armor titanium and lava red” mobile chassis. The new laptop – the G752 series – features Intel’s new 6th generation Core i7- processor (formerly codenamed Skylake) and Windows 10. The new i7-6700HQ processor is also joined by Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 965M graphics, a 17.3-inch Full HD display (no, not 4K, though an option is available) and up to – wait for it – 64GB of memory.

Thunderbolt 3.0 is also included, which is interesting as so few periperals support it. The keyboard has also been specially configured so gamers can press up to 30 keys simultaneously.

Currently the G752 is slated at $1499 USD and will be available later in the year.

Asus also teased a remarkable water-cooled ROG laptop that will be out later in the year – the GX700. Presumably the laptop will be running Skylake, but there's no word on the Nvidia graphics processor that will be inside.
