The worst thing about the Kindle Colorsoft is that we’re no longer allowed to needle Amazon about being behind the e-ink curve: the company has finally entered its Technicolor era. Clever use of the word ‘soft’ in the name, too, making the noticeably muted tones of today’s chromatic e-ink into a feature rather than a drawback. Outwardly it looks and feels like the newest Paperwhite, released alongside it, and while Amazon touts its capabilities as a boon for travel books, we rather think this is more a boon for comics fans – although there’s a little friction when it comes to both colour and monochrome content. The resolution halves to 150ppi when you move from black and white, and it lacks the contrast of the Paperwhite.
