The Sonos Roam is the company’s smallest speaker yet. It is loaded with specs that make it a suitable companion, no matter where the user chooses to go. The Sonos Roam can be utilised through WiFi or Bluetooth, with the ability to automatically pair with home networks and the user’s smartphone. More so, through WiFi, the user can also connect the Roam to two other matching Sonos speakers to create a stereo pair and a detailed audio experience.
Using the ‘Trueplay’ tuning technology, the Sonos Roam is capable of smartly adapting to the surroundings to produce a superior and balanced audio quality that is befitting the type of music the user chooses to play. The 18Wh battery provides a playtime of 10 hours, which make it suitable for short hikes or escapades too.
The Sonos Roam’s solid design gives it rugged durability. It is IP67-rated, which means that it is dust and water-resistant up to a depth of 1 meter. The Sonos Roam is also drop resistant. It’s design enables it to lay flat on the surface, if uneven, for more stability, or stand on its edges.
The Sonos Roam can be charged easily through the provided cable. It can also be charged wirelessly through any Qi-certified charger. Sonos also provides their own custom-designed wireless charger which costs an extra $49.
Moving to the technical aspects of the speaker, the Sonos Roam comprises two Class-H digital amplifiers which are perfectly tuned to the drivers, one tweeter, one mid-woofer for mid-range frequencies and low-end outputs, and a far-field microphone array – which, in turn, is also compatible with voice assistant features of Alexa and Google through WiFi. The Sonos Roam features buttons to play, pause, adjust he volume, skip, replay, turn off the microphone, and manually pair a Bluetooth device.
The Sonos Roam is also compatible with Apple’s AirPlay 2 on Apple devices with iOS 11.4 and higher. The portable speaker is powered by a Quad-core 1.4GHz A-53 processor and a 1GB SDRAM.
