Jabra Evolve3 85 Review: A Rs 89,970 Masterclass in Premium Audio and Executive Design?

By Himank Tripathi

Recently, I’m spending a lot of time navigating airport terminals and bustling event floors and this is when my audio gear becomes a lifeline. I need a headset that seamlessly transitions from taking a critical call on a windy street to tuning out the drone of a flight, all without looking like you’re operating a 90s switchboard. Enter the Jabra Evolve3 85.

Priced at Rs 89,970, it sits firmly in the premium tier. I tried to put it through its paces in the real world to figure out if I can confidently say it is the best headset at this price point. Here is a look at what makes sense and areas of improvement to help you decide if this makes sense for you.

Design and Portability:

The unboxing experience immediately sets the tone. The carrying pouch is so exceptionally light, small, and tiny that for a brief second, I actually thought the box was empty. Jabra has engineered this model to be up to 35% slimmer than previous generations. Weighing in at an incredibly light 220 grams, it folds down neatly to take up minimal space in your bag.

More importantly, it isn’t chunky. Many productivity headsets sacrifice aesthetics for function, but the Evolve3 85 looks sleek and modern. In fact, it looks so good that I’ve lost count of how many people at airports and events have stopped to ask me what headphones I’m wearing. When I tell them it’s a Jabra, they are genuinely surprised, several have even told me they’re going to order a pair themselves on the spot.

Audio and Call Quality:

Jabra took a bold choice here by completely removing the physical microphone boom arm. Instead, the headset has a multi-mic array and Jabra ClearVoice, an AI-powered deep learning algorithm trained on 60 million sentences, to create a ‘virtual boom arm’.

And it works. The call quality is the best I’ve experienced in any headset, especially when I’m making calls outside. The headset manages to isolate my vocal frequencies beautifully, so I never have to worry about background street noise or wind ruining my important calls. When it comes to music, the sound is immersive and rich. Whenever I plug the complimentary Bluetooth dongle into my laptop or phone, the connection is incredibly seamless and virtually lossless, elevating the entire experience.

ANC and Comfort:

If you are hunting for the absolute strongest Active Noise Cancellation on the market, the Evolve3 85 might not take the top spot on a spec sheet. But for my daily use, that is actually its biggest advantage. Heavy, aggressive ANC often leaves me feeling claustrophobic and stuffy, the notorious ‘cabin pressure’ effect.

The Jabra Advanced ANC here strikes a much better balance. I noticed how seamlessly it adapts in real-time to my surroundings and blocking out distractions without making me feel trapped in a vacuum. Jabra Evolve3 85 manages to give me almost exact levels of ANC I need. Then comes these breathable over-ear cushions and SafeTone 2.0 technology, which blocks sudden acoustic spikes above 118 dB to protect my hearing, the comfort is phenomenal. I can easily wear these for three-four hours without any fatigue.

Smart Features and Battery Life:

Just like the hardware, the software experience is effortless. The Jabra Plus App is intuitive, and the EQ setup is very easy to use, letting me adjust the audio precisely to my liking. That’s not all, the Jabra Evolve3 85 also features deep Gen AI integration where the prompt accuracy is 96% and it captures 9 out of 10 words perfectly for reliable hands-free commands.

Battery life is another area where the Evolve3 85 is phenomenal. I am getting close to 25 hours of talk time or up to 120 hours of music playback on a single charge without ANC. If I do get caught with a low battery right before a call, the rapid charge feature gives me 5 hours of power from just a 5-minute charge, and it supports wireless charging for added convenience.

The Nitpicks:

First is the ‘sidetone’ feature. The concept is that it lets you hear your own voice to help you stay aware of your surroundings, but for me, it just doesn’t make sense. It amplifies the noise level uncomfortably, and I ultimately had to switch it off. While some might appreciate the added awareness, it simply didn’t add value to my daily experience.

Additionally, ditching the physical microphone arm comes with a minor trade-off. While the AI does a fantastic job of isolating my voice from background noise, the headset loses a bit of the raw microphone fidelity and vocal presence that only a traditional boom mic placed directly next to the mouth can provide. It is a fair compromise for the sleek, modern design, but those looking for broadcast-level vocal richness might notice the slight dip in raw audio depth.

In The End:

The Jabra Evolve3 85 is an absolute powerhouse. It ditches the chunky corporate aesthetic for a sleek, boomless design, pairs it with an incredibly compact travel pouch, and delivers exceptional audio and call quality across the board. While the ANC isn’t the most aggressive out there, it is perfectly tuned for long-term comfort without the stuffiness.

For Rs 89,970, you are getting a premium, all-day audio companion that handles the demands of modern work effortlessly. If you want pristine call quality, lightweight portability, and a sharp design, this is easily one of the best investments you can make. My Rating: 4.5/5
