Oppo reveals Reno 2 series

The global unveiling of the Oppo Reno 2 series took place today in India coming only a few months after Reno. The series consists of 3 devices namely Reno 2, Reno 2Z and Reno 2F.

Oppo Reno 2 sports a 6.55″ FHD+ (1080×2400) Dynamic AMOLED display with 93.1% screen-to-body ratio that is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 while the rear gets Gorilla Glass 5. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage.The G3 optical in-display fingerprint sensor has been implemented instead of a rear mounted sensor. A rear quad camera debuts for the first time on Oppo devices consisting of a 48MP Sony IMX586 main sensor, 13MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom, 8MP wide-angle camera with 116 degree field of view and a 2MP monochrome lens. The shark-fin style elevating camera returns housing a 16MP selfie snapper.

The camera is packed with features like Ultra Dark Mode for low light photography, AI HDR, AI Beauty mode and Portrait mode for both the front and rear cameras. For close-up photos, a special Macro Mode is present while both OIS and EIS are employed in Ultra Steady Mode for stabilised video recording. Audio Zoom will amplify the sound of the subject in focus when zoomed in on it.

Reno 2Z is equipped with a 6.53″ FHD+ AMOLED display with 19:5:9 aspect ratio that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It runs on a MediaTek Helio P90 SoC while Reno 2F runs on a MediaTek Helio P70 SoC having the same screen size as 2Z. Both devices share the same specifications as Reno 2 with the exception of the telephoto lens on the rear camera setup that has been replaced with a 2MP depth sensor. Another difference is the selfie lens comes in a normal pop-up module instead of the shark fin. All the devices run on the latest ColorOS 6.1 based on Android Pie featuring a new visual design, game space and gestures. The 4000mAh battery inside supports VOOC 3.0 Flash Charge tech.

Oppo also revealed their new Enco Q1 Wireless noise cancelling headphones priced at Rs.7,990 going on sale from 6 September. Priced at Rs.36,990, Reno 2 is up for preorder from 10 September and goes on sale from 20 September. Reno 2Z will cost Rs.29,990 and will be sold from 6 September with preorders starting from today. Reno 2 will be available in Ocean Blue and Luminous Black colour variants while Reno 2Z will come in Luminous Black, Sky White and Polar Light options. Finally, Reno 2F has Sky White and Lake Green shades.

Lenovo brings the refreshed Legion gaming range to India

Lenovo unveiled their new and updated Legion gaming series at an event in the capital today. The new range consists of laptops, desktops and some accessories.

Lenovo Legion Y740 is a premium 15.6″ FHD (1920×1080) laptop sporting a grey anodised exterior that is tastefully decorated with customisable RGB LED effects. It comes with upto 9th gen Intel Core i7-9750H CPU and Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 GPU with Max-Q. Purchasing from the Lenovo website will allow customers to configure the device by choosing upto 32GB RAM, 144HZ display refresh rate with GSYNC, single or dual hard drives and SSD. For those interested in matching the Dolby Atmos Speaker sound with Dolby Sound Radar, optional Dolby Vision is available. Running on a 57Wh battery, Windows 10 comes preinstalled as the default OS which can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.

Legion Y540 sports a similar design language and specifications as elder sibling Y740 but the graphic card tops out at Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 GPU. It comes with Harman Kardon speakers supporting Dolby Atmos boosting audio during games, videos or music. Coming to the desktop segment, Legion T730 will come with choices of Intel Core K processor, Nvidia Geforce 10 or 20 series graphics card, DDR4 memory, PCIe SSD storage and more. Legion T530 was also mentioned but its hardware choices were not revealed. Coming to the accessories, M500 gaming mouse, K500 RGB mechanical keyboard as well as H500 and H300 stereo gaming headsets were on display.

Realme 5 series debuts in India

After showing off their camera setup a short while back, Realme has officially unveiled the Realme 5 series in India. This consists of Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro but at the event a few other accessories were also revealed.

Realme 5 houses a large 6.5″ HD+ (720×1600) Minidrop display that comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The notch housing the 13MP front camera is around 30% smaller than before. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 AIE SoC having 11nm fabrication that makes its Indian debut on the device. On the rear is a quad camera setup that consists of a 12MP (f/1.8 aperture) primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide angle snapper, 2MP macro lens and a 2MP portrait lens. The rear camera is capable of Nightscape, Chroma Boost and HDR modes while the front can do HDR and AI beautification. It boasts of a 5000mAh battery that combined with the software optimisations on Android Pie-based ColorOS 6 should give a long battery life.

Coming to Realme 5 Pro, it sports a 6.3″ FHD+ (2340×1080) Minidrop display with 450nits brightness and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset that is based on a 10nm process. Similar to the Realme 5, it bears a quad camera setup comprising of a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, 8MP ultra-wide angle, 2MP macro lens and a 2MP portrait lens. In addition to including the camera features mentioned above for the Realme 5, the Pro variant will also receive Nightscape mode on the 16MP front camera. The 4035mAh battery supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging via a 20W fast charger bundled in the box.

Both devices share a new ‘Crystal Design’ philosophy for the 3D curved glossy plastic rear panels. They have a diamond-cut design that makes the triangular pattern visible at certain angles. A rear mounted fingerprint sensor is present here on the two phones. New accessories like the Realme Iconic Case for Realme 5 (Rs.399), Realme Tote bag (Rs.1,199) and Realme Buds 2 (Rs.599) will be sold from September 4.

Available in Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple colours, Realme 5 comes in 3 variants: 3GB RAM+32GB ROM (Rs.9,999), 4GB+64GB (Rs.10,999) and 4GB+128GB (Rs.11,999). Realme 5 Pro comes in Crystal Green and Sparkling Blue colours that are available in 3 variants: 4GB RAM+64GB ROM (Rs.13,999), 6GB+64GB (Rs.14,999) and 8GB+128GB (Rs.16,999). The first sale starts from 27 August for Realme 5 and 4 September for Realme 5 Pro.

TP-Link is the first networking company to receive TEC Certification under MTCTE

TP-Link, the computer networking equipment maker based out of Shenzhen in China has become the first networking company in India to receive the TEC (Telecommunication Engineering Center) Certification. This is for their business class Action Points and WiFi Routers that come under the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) programme undertaken by the Government of India.

Mr. Sanjay Sehgal, Sr. Vice President, SMB & Telco said “TP-Link being a global leader in CPE’s, Access Points, Routers and other telecom products, recognises the importance of TEC certification assuring compliance as per the local Government standards“.

Framed in 2017, the Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Rules state that all telecom equipment must undergo mandatory testing and certification prior to sale and import of use in India. The testing for the equipment is carried out for conformance to essential requirements by Indian accredited labs designated by TEC and based on the test reports, the certificate will be issued by TEC. TP-Link products are currently being supplied to more than 170 countries across the world.

HP hopes to entice Android users with Chromebook x360

Today HP unveiled the Chromebook x360 at an event in New Delhi. The device can be used in four modes namely laptop, tablet, stand and tent owing to its covertible nature.

The Chromebook x360 is powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i3/i5 processor, Intel UHD 620 graphics, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 64GB eMMC storage and a 60W battery. It bears a 14″ diagonal FHD IPS display having multi-touch and boasting of edge-to-edge glass with narrow 7.5mm bezels. Below, the full size keyboard is backlit making it suitable for using in dark environments. Custom tuned Bang&Olufsen (B&O) Play dual speakers provide the sound output while an HD True VisionHD camera takes up webcam duties. Coming to connectivity, we get 2x USB 3.2 Type-C ports, 1x USB 3.1 HP Sleep and Charge port, 1x headphone/ microphone combo, 1x multi-format SD media card reader, WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth v4.2.

Running on ChromeOS, over a million apps are supported on it that can be downloaded from the play store. The G-Suite has been completely integrated enabling users to work on cloud-based apps that get stored in Google Drive and are available on the smartphone as well thanks to syncing. Google Assistant is in-built allowing for voice based commands to do various tasks.

Starting from Rs.44,990, the Chromebook x360 will be available to purchase through HP World Stores in 28 cities in India and online on various portals like HP Online store, Amazon and Flipkart. A complimentary 1 year subscription of Google Drive storage with 100GB and unlimited Google Photos storage will be provided. Further, 2GB data everyday for 1 year at Rs.999 from Jio and Meritnation education package worth Rs.35,000 are also being offered.
