HMD Global has introduced their first smartphone running on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) in the form of the Nokia 1. It was first announced at the Mobile World Congress 2018 last month in February.
Nokia 1 is a compact handset as evidenced by the 4.5″ FWVGA (480p) IPS display. It is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, Mali T720 GPU, 1GB RAM and 8GB storage (Expandable upto 128GB via microSD). Coming to the camera setup, there is a 2MP fixed focus lens on the front and 8MP fixed focus lens with LED flash at the rear. For connectivity it offers 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/A-GPS, FM radio, Micro-USB, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and 3.5mm audio jack located at the top. The Android Go ecosystem has been optimised to run on budget smartphones coming pre-loaded with lightweight versions of Google apps and services.
Sold in Dark Blue and Warm Red colours, the device is priced at Rs.5,499 available across all retail outlets in the country. Xpress On covers in Azure and Grey or Yellow and Pink allow to change the back covers are sold separately having a cost of Rs.450. At present there are various launch offers from Reliance Jio, Kotak 811 and RedBus.
