Sony Alpha 7C

Sony Alpha 7C: The smallest and lightest full-frame system

November 20, 2020 by T3 India

As their latest addition to the popular and well-received Alpha series of mirrorless cameras, Sony have launched the new Alpha 7C, which is their smallest and lightest full-frame camera system yet. This stunningly light and compact design also brings with it Sony’s signature high-quality video-recording capabilities along with superior autofocus and upgraded imaging technology.

The Alpha 7C features a 24.2MP 35mm full-frame back-illuminated Exrnor R CMOS sensor and BINOZ X image processing engine which offers high sensitivity and a 15-stop wide dynamic range and high-speed image data processing. The Alpha 7C weighs just 509 grams and is similar in size to an APS-C camera. This camera is also equipped with an upgraded 5-axis in-body stabilisation and shutter units. The Alpha 7C also features continuous shooting up to 10fps (and 8fps in live view mode) through a newly-developed shutter.

The LCD monitor is touch-sensitive 3.0 type with approximately 921 thousand dots, providing better visibility in bright conditions as well. The 2.35 megadot XGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF helps in showcasing better details in the final image as well.

The Alpha 7C is powered by a NP-FZ100 battery which according to Sony, allows users to capture up to 740 images when using LCD monitor or 680 images through the viewfinder. The new Alpha 7C also captures 4K video, with an increased capacity to capture more of the video through eliminating the need of ‘pixel binning’.  The Alpha 7C supports HDR (HLG) and S-Log/S-Gamut profiles, Slow & Quick Motion, Full HD recording at 120fps, 16-bit processing, and 14-bit RAW output for natural gradations.

The Alpha 7C’s capabilities is also bolstered with ‘Real-time Tracking’ and maintains accurate focus automatically when the shutter button is half pressed. The Real-time Eye AF for both humans and animals is something Sony specialises in integrating into it’s systems. Besides these, Touch Tracking is available for movie shooting and the AF Transition Speeds are also customisable by users.

The Alpha 7C’s ability to accurately capture 223 JPEG (Fine L) images, 115 compressed RAW images, or 45 uncompressed RAW images in one continuous burst even in light down to EV-4 is thoroughly impressive. This camera is designed by keeping today’s vloggers and video creators in mind with headphone and microphone jacks also provided to monitor the recorded sound.

The Alpha 7C is Wi-Fi compatible and it also comes with an option of a new FE 28-60mm F/4-5.6 lens – which offers the world’s smallest and lightest form factor in a standard zoom lens. The lens is dust and moisture resistant and supports a range of 40.5mm filters.

The Sony Alpha 7C (body only) is now available for Rs. 1,67,990 and for Rs. 1,96,990 with the new FE 28-60mm lens.
