Lenovo Phab2 Pro goes on sale abroad

First revealed back in MWC 2016, the world’s first Tango smartphone is now available for sale abroad. The device was originally meant to go on sale in August but numerous delays finally pushed the release date to 1 November.

It is the first commercially available device from the Project Tango stable which focuses on Augmented Reality (AR) apps. 35 AR apps are already available in the Google Play store which have been built specially for the device. These include apps to paint and draw on any surface, playing with virtual pets, Domino world game, home item measurement and item visualiser. Lenovo hopes to populate the store with atleast 100 apps by the end of the year.

The Phab2 Pro is equipped with a depth-sensing IR camera and motion tracking camera. The speakers sport Dolby Atmos audio technology along with Dolby Audio 5.1 surround capture technology capable of recording 3D sound. The battery is slated to deliver 15 hours of battery life.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro is available in the USA for 499$. It is speculated to hit Indian shores by the end of the year.

PHAB2 Pro is the first Tango-enabled smartphone

Lenovo has been working on a Tango phone for quite some time and at the Lenovo TechWorld today announced the PHAB 2 Pro. This is the first offering from Lenovo that is culmination of the close partnership with Google and Snapdragon.

Tango is Google’s take on Augmented Reality and promises to enhance the overall experience by bringing AR into the phone.

The phone is equipped with multiple cameras that is essential for Tango to work and features a premium design. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 processor, 4GB RAM, 6.4-inch 2560×1440 2K display and running Android 6.0. Additionally, the device has an internal memory of 64GB with memory expansion through microSD, 16MP main and 8MP front-facing cameras and 4050mAh battery. PHAB2 Pro also features Dolby’s Audio Capture 5.1 that allows capturing of sound in 5.1-channel surround sound.

The PHAB2 Pro will go on sale from September for $499 in the United States.

Lenovo also introduced the PHAB2 Plus and PHAB2 devices alongside the Pro version that does not support Tango and comes with lower spec’d hardware and more affordable price point. The PHAB2 starts at $199 and PHAB2 Plus at $299.

MWC 16: Lenovo reveals Project Tango smartphone

Lenovo and Google are collaborating to create the world’s first smartphone powered by Project Tango technology. The device was originally announced at the CES 2016 electronics show in January.

The upcoming smartphone supports augmented reality features developed under the project. Made up of 3D motion tracking with depth sensors, it gives a mobile device the ability to know its location and how it will navigate through the area. Then the AR software overlays graphics or text on the displayed real image providing further information about it in real time.

The device is expected sometime in July 2016 at a competitive price.
