HP is offering Indians an Esports Scholarship at the OMEN FanFest 2020

The world of Esports has taken its own time to build up into the platform it is today within India. It’s still nascent, but opportunities, communities and the appreciation for it as a way of life is definitely on the rise, thanks to the advancements made in the tech sphere. To promote the growth of the PC Gaming industry, HP India has announced a fascinating scholarship at the Omen FanFest 2020 which offers a range of exciting opportunities for the winner.  

The ‘esports Gold Quest’ scholarship is open to Indian applicants aged between 16-20 and will begin in January 2021 with the final selections in June 2021. Three Indian talents will be selected and will be offered an annual scholarship of Rs. 12 lakhs each, which will also include a full esports kit from Omen, a monthly salary of Rs. 50,000 each and the opportunity to train abroad.

The winners will also gain an invaluable interaction with prominent esports athletes, pioneers, and more. Expert mentoring will surely lead the selected gamers in becoming much more acquainted with the knowledge to not only further their skills and potential but also how to traverse the business and other aspects of the industry.

HP unveils first dual-screen gaming laptop and refreshes range

Today HP launched their new gaming laptops under the OMEN and Pavillion series. These include Pavilion Gaming 15, OMEN 15 and OMEN X 2S 15 which is the world’s first dual-screen gaming laptop. Gaming accessories like OMEN Photon wireless mouse and OMEN Outpost Mousepad were also announced.

The inspiration behind the OMEN X 2S (From Rs.2,09,990) came after gaining some insights and feedback from the gaming communities. HP observed that many modern gamers have a mobile screen-stacking habit making them constantly shift their attention between the two doing various activities that sometimes breaks concentration. Keeping this in mind, the company has introduced the dual-screen OMEN X 2S to keep them fully immersed. The laptop comes with a 15.6″ FHD display with 144Hz refresh rate and the secondary screen shares the same FHD resolution but at a more modest 6″ size. As this is a touchscreen panel, it can be perfectly used for mirroring or multi-window work. As examples, showing the OMEN Command Center software, watching videos on YouTube, texting on WhatsApp, listening to songs on a media player and more is possible.

It comes with a configuration housing upto 9th gen Intel Core i9 CPU paired with upto 16GB DDR4 RAM and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics. For storage, the primary boot drive can be Intel Optane storage. The backlit keyboard has RGB lighting that is fully customisable in numerous patterns. The 20mm metal chassis manages to stay cool using OMEN Tempest that has a 12V fan, triple side venting, five-way airflow and Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut. The latter is a liquid metal compound to further keep the processor cooler than regular compounds by 13%. Weighing 2.38kgs, it is powered by a 72whr battery and support the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 technologies. OMEN 15 (From Rs.1,24,990) has been given an update sharing similar specifications as the OMEN X 2S like 15.6″ FHD 144Hz display, 9th gen Intel Core i9 CPU, upto 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics and Tempest cooling.

The affordable Pavilion Gaming 15 model (From Rs.70,990) has received a 2019 refresh. The most noticeable changes are it being thinner and smaller in height compared to the previous model. The various SKUs run on 9th Gen Intel Core i5/i7 processors and upto Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU with Max-Q design. The HP Omen Photon Wireless Mouse (Rs.8,499) has been ergonomically designed with removable rests and boasts of 11 customisable buttons. It uses 2.4GHz Proactive Wireless Technology and has a click response time of 0.2ms. It can be charged on any Qi enabled surface giving around 50 hours of battery life on a full charge. The HP Omen Outpost Mousepad (Rs.8,499) is equipped with Qi wireless charging to power smartphones and can completely top up the Omen Photon Wireless Mouse in 2.5 hours. Supporting USB Type-A Passthrough for a wireless dongle, it has hard and soft anti-fray mat options on both sides.

HP announces availability of OMEN gaming range in India

On Wednesday, HP officially launched its OMEN gaming portfolio for the Indian market. The lineup includes a desktop, keyboard, mouse, headset, mousepad and several laptops.

The OMEN desktop is powered by an Intel 7th Gen i7-7700HQ processor, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 graphics card along with dual storage of 2TB HDD and 128GB SSD. The peripherals have been manufactured in collaboration with Steelseries featuring 5 zones capable of 168 lakh colours which gives almost unlimited combinations. It is also equipped with 88 built-in macro keys while 20 keys in the most used gaming areas support anti-ghosting.

The headset has been developed with input from professional eSports teams coming with a lightweight headband and padded ear cushions. It also includes a retractable microphone with 3.5mm mobile adapter and balanced soundscape.

The OMEN mouse supports true 1:1 tracking and proprietary SteelSeries switches able to maintain their tactile feel for over 300 lakh clicks. The mouse pad has 15.7×17.7″ dimensions having a non-slip rubber base so that it stays anchored to the desk.

The laptop range will come in 17.3″ and 15.6″ screen sizes. The 15″ model has a Full HD display, 7th Gen Intel i7-7700HQ processor, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 graphics, liquid cooling with advanced heat management and a 63.3WHr battery.

The 17.3″ model (pictured above) also runs on the Intel 7th Gen i7-7700HQ processor, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 graphics, 95.8WHr battery and incorporates Nvidia GSYNC technology which helps eliminate screen tearing. All the laptops come with Bang & Olufsen Audio with Dual Speakers and Audio Boost technology.
