Review: BenQ CinePrime W5700

BenQ is one of the few companies that has been growing its 4K projectors lineup consistently. The company’s latest addition is the CinePrime W5700, which we put through some ‘rigorous’ movie watching tests to see if it’s worth the mettle.

Clad in black, the W5700 is not as colourful as BenQ’s TK800 but shows how the projector means performance with its rich set of features and well thought-out design. The front is dominated by a huge lens with two vents that extend towards the sides for better heat dissipation. The top part of the projector has two knobs for horizontal and vertical lens shift whereas the back of the projector boasts playback controls and host a myriad of input and output interfaces. For customers who want to place the projector on the table, the projector comes with height-adjustable legs but given the size and weight; W5700 is better off mounted on the ceiling. BenQ also bundles a remote control along with the projector.

While one can use the projector conventionally by connecting it to an HDMI source, the W5700 has made it very easy to enjoy multimedia content, thanks to the built-in USB media reader. The projector is equipped with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports and plug-in a flash drive to play content directly off the USB device. We played a few videos, photos from a flash drive and it worked flawlessly. Interestingly, the projector can also read office files, which comes in handy, if you want to go through a presentation without having to connect to a computer or a mobile device.

BenQ W5700

The W5700 can playback videos to up to 4K (3840×2160) resolution and is equipped with HDR-PRO technology that supports both HDR10 and HLG format. Moreover, colour accuracy is handled by BenQ’s CinematicColor tech that covers 100 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour space along with Rec. 709. Topping it all is the individual colour calibration that BenQ does before rolling it out from the factory.

Picture quality is an important factor when considering a projector and W5700 easily delivers on that front. The colour reproduction is excellent and also comes with additional picture enhancements features like HDR, 4K pixel enhancer, flesh tone enhancer along with instant media playback and zoom support, making it a good choice for home theater projection users.

BenQ CinePrime W2700 and W5700 4K projectors hope to raise expectations

Taiwan headquartered electronics company BenQ on Tuesday unveiled CinePrime W2700 and W5700 DLP projectors at an event in Gurugram. The company boasts these to be the world’s first 4K home cinema projectors capable of upto 100% DCI-P3 Cinematic colours.

BenQ CinePrime W2700 and W5700 are capable of outputting true 4K (3840x2160p) resolution with 8.3 million distinct pixels for each frame. The 4K optical system and all-glass lens elements enable them to produce a crystal clear and sharp image uniformly across the viewing area. The W5700 is capable of 100% super wide DCI-P3 colour space with 100% Rec. 709 while W2700 goes upto 94% DCI-P3 and 100% of Rec. 709. With the help of HDR-PRO they incorporate auto colour and tone mapping techniques and are able to support HDR10 and HLG formats. They have tailored AV personalisation with versatile short throw, big zoom and lens shift.

W2700 has dimensions of 380x127x263mm with a net weight of 4.2kg and W5700 is 353x135x272mm in size weighing 6.5kg. This makes both quite compact in design and lightweight. Priced at Rs.2,49,000 for the W2700 and Rs.2,99,000 for W5700, both projectors will be sold in India from March 2019 onwards.

Learn, engage and entertain with the K-Yan

K-Yan, short for Knowledge Vehicle is not only a multipurpose device but a solution, which helps transform pedagogy from mere transmission to a facilitator of transformation.

Tested: BenQ TK800

BenQ is one of the few companies that has been expanding its 4K projection lineup consistently over the last couple of years. The latest in the line is TK800 that goes for the home crowd.

The TK800 isn’t what we would call a stunningly good looking projector but this time around, BenQ has adopted a dual-colour design with glossy blue hue gracing the front while the rest in white. The projector is compact with buttons placed at the top, vents on the sides and connectivity options at the back.

BenQ has worked on improving the projection quality and is evident on the TK800. It can project images in 4K UHD (3840×2160) resolution with HDR that helps enhance brightness and contrast range. Moreover, the projector’s colour wheel achieves 92 per cent of Rec. 709 colour gamut. There are different picture modes, including sports and a football mode. While sports mode enhances the audio and prioritises realistic skin shades along with wood tones, vivid reds, balanced greens and blues for indoor sports; football mode favours skin tones while improving lush green grass details.

The lamp brightness is rated at 3,000 lumens with a projection life of up to 15,000 hours.

All in all, the TK800 is a strong addition to BenQ’s 4K projection range with its compact design and HDR support.

Expect a cinematic experience at home with Optoma’s new HD27e projector

A/V solutions provider Optoma unveiled their latest projector, the HD27e for the Indian market. The Full HD 1080p resolution projector is perfectly suited for watching videos to playing games. It has a rated brightness of 3,400 lumens and a 25,000:1 max contrast ratio conforming to Rec.709 HDTV standard for accurate colour reproduction.

Highly convenient to setup, HD27e features 2 HDMI ports and MHL support for connecting various devices like a Blu-ray player, media streamer, games console, laptop PC and more.
