The Asus ROG Strix SCAR16 for 2024 raises the game with the latest generation hardware and a complement of high-speed storage and improved essentials.
If ultimate performance is what you seek, look no further than the Asus ROG series. ROG (Republic of Gamers) products are made by gamers for gamers. So, it’s a given that they know first-hand what is needed and how much of it is needed—Intel’s flagship 14th-gen CPU, vast memory and wholesome storage, plus an nVIDIA RTX 4080 GPU—for astounding bandwidth, incredible speed and quick response times. It marks a step up in terms of core performance and represents a considerable evolution over the previous-generation offering.
This ROG Strix SCAR16 “G634JZR-RA112X” model packs the Intel i9-14900HX running from 2.2 up to 5.8 GHz with 24 cores and 32 threads (the split is eight performance cores with two threads each and 16 efficiency or single-thread cores) with a total of 32GB DDR5-5600 dual-channel memory, an RTX 4080 Laptop GPU running an ROG-boost clock with 12GB of GDDR6 dedicated memory, and 2TB of PCie 4.0 nVME M.2 SSD storage in RAID0, no less.
For additional connectivity, the ROG Strix SCAR16 has two USB 4.0 ports (one each for power delivery and Thunderbolt) both with DisplayPort and G-SYNC, and two USB 3.2 Type A ports, plus a 16-inch ROG Nebula HDR display which is Pantone validated and good for a crisp 2560×1600 resolution with refresh rate of up to 240Hz. There is also a custom keyboard backlight set-up with per-key RGB, and a larger 90Wh battery pack with enough juice for the most demanding use. It also gets a 330-watt charger which refuels it fast. It runs Windows 11 out of the box and even includes a one-month trial of Office 365 and three months of Xbox Game Pass.
We ran a series of tests on the ROG Strix SCAR16 using established bench software and it came out shining. We even popped in DIRT Rally 2 via Steam and plugged in a controller to properly enjoy the gaming experience. When pushed, it does heat up and the cooling system kicks in to keep temperatures in check. All those vents serve a purpose after all.
There is one great truth, though. “Gaming” laptops offer everything a gamer or, for that matter, a creative professional or even a spec-crazy enthusiast individual demands. If you need top-shelf hardware even if you don’t game, the ROG Strix SCAR16 is one easy way to go. It can handle any task demanded of it with ease. The high resolution and generous memory allow for far better visibility and flexibility, no matter what the need.
If you need even more, Asus offer the G634JZR-RA068X with identical kit but with an RTX 4090 and 16GB of dedicated GDDR6 memory. Then, there is also the SCAR18…
