Over the past month, we have been using Norton 360 antivirus on a MacBook and iPhone. Here are our experiences.
Complete, all-round protection through the year for Rs 1,200 does not sound so bad does it? That was exactly what I thought too when I checked the pricing for the Norton 360 antivirus I was going to use on my MacBook and iPhone.
Growing up, ‘Norton’ was the name I associated with antivirus software because most people vouched for Norton’s efficiency and security. Fast forward a decade to present time and things are no different. Norton continues to be at the top of its game, so much so that its reputation is beyond doubt. Which is why when asked to review its latest in the industry, I did not think twice about it.
The first thing that impressed me right after installation was how thorough this plan was. Right after installing it on my laptop, I was also offered the option of installing the same antivirus on my phone. That was reassuring because in the modern world, most of our internet time is spent using our phones and a plan that includes cell phones too just seems well thought out. Efficiency is one of the things I like most about my laptop and I am pleased to report that within the first week of installing Norton 360, I had completely forgotten about it. Like a sharp bodyguard, the program ran in the background when needed and executed its duties without any compromise on performance.
Armed with my newfound confidence, I ventured on to some suspicious websites and attempted to download malware and navigate through clickbait content. Each time, a pop-up warned me against it by identifying the threat and even providing a real-time risk analysis using colour coding that was simple and easy to understand. Norton claim that such proficiency was achieved by using machine learning. Considering that I was unable to pull a fast one over the program despite trying my best shows that Norton have indeed thought of everything that most internet users need. The same is to be said for my experience with the smartphone app. Overall, as far as protection is concerned, Norton 360 not only finds malware but also warns you before you venture down a path that can lead to it. I found that extremely useful.
The quick scans barely take any computing power and run quietly in the background while I go about my everyday routine but the full scans are noticeably more demanding. Personally, I would recommend running a full scan at least once a month, just to be safe. That is it for now from our side. Keep watching this space because we will be updating it with fresh experiences as we discover them. We have 350 days of subscription left, so lots more to come.
