2K Games officially confirmed the release of Mafia: Trilogy which includes the ‘Definitive Editions’ of the classic crime-drama games: Mafia, Mafia II, and Mafia III. You can purchase them all-together as the Mafia: Trilogy, or as standalone games, or even upgrade Mafia II and III for free if you own them on your PC or console, depending on the game. The latter two are available to all existing owners, from May 19, as digital upgrades at no additional cost.
It sure is very exciting to see one of the best gangster-crime, action-adventure thrillers in the gaming world to be remade and remastered and we have broken down the details with respect to each game, which offers a clearer view on what gamers can do to get their hands on these classics.
For those who have played the original Mafia game, which released on PC all the way back in 2002 know that it was a trend-setting game, the rewrote and pioneered the cinematic approach to games, which included a mix of excellent storytelling and action – where the players got into the shoes of a young Italian goon Tommy Angelo who was a rising icon in the criminal underworld. Now, 2K games have confirmed that ‘Mafia: Definitive Edition’ – the centerpiece of the trilogy -will be a ‘rebuilt-from-the-ground-up-remake’ of the original Mafia, with an updated script, new dialogue, additional cut scenes and new gameplay enhancements. It will be available on August 28, 2020.
Mafia: Definitive Edition will present stellar graphics comparable to today’s games, and can be pre-ordered or purchased on Steam (on PC), PS4 and Xbox One. It’s also available as a standalone game for Rs. 2,999. From the screenshots of the game (below), it’s evident that the game is a complete remake which has gone through a major overhaul, and it’s nothing short of exciting.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition will feature completely remastered visuals from its original game which was released 10 years ago on Steam. Since this game only released on the PC, if people own Mafia II on Steam, they are entitled to a free update of the 2010-game to the new, remastered ‘Mafia II: Definitive Edition’, starting from May 19, 2020.
For Mafia III: Definitive Edition, 2K Games mentioned in their post, “all existing Mafia III owners on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam will be upgraded to Mafia III: Definitive Edition today at no additional cost. Customers who own a combination of titles will receive special reduced-price upgrade offers to complete their trilogy via in-game menus within each of the Mafia titles”. Mafia III was originally released across all platforms in 2016.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition, and Mafia III: Definitive Edition also have a ton of additional content in the form of ‘Story DLCs’ and ‘Bonus Packs’ (which are listed in detail in 2K’s blog post) Both are also now available as standalone games across all platforms for $29.99, or if you purchase the Mafia: Trilogy, the games will be made available on August 28, 2020.
Mafia: Trilogy is available to pre-order in India too. The Stadia versions of the ‘Definitive Editions’ of Mafia II and III are also planned.
