India is one of the most important markets for OnePlus that boasts a growth rate of more than 100%. And to cater to the growing local and global market, OnePlus has opened its first R&D facility in Hyderabad, India.
OnePlus says there were a lot of factors to choose Hyderabad as its R&D facility location, including the availability of “sizeable pool of talent” that will help them to expand to over 1500 employees in the next three years.
The facility here will house three labs – camera lab, communications and networking labs and automation labs that will focus heavily on camera development, 5G testing, software with focus on AI and performance testing.
OnePlus will also open its Experience Store in Hyderabad next month.

OnePlus to provide 2 years worth of software updates
OnePlus is putting to rest concerns regarding software updates and have officially announced the OnePlus Software Maintenance Schedule. This finally gives users concrete information regarding the upgrade cycle.
Under this schedule, all OnePlus smartphones will receive 2 years of regular software updates from the date of release. Coming to Android Security patches, they will be provided for 3 years that will be delivered regularly every 2 months. This schedule goes into effect immediately and currently applies to OnePlus 3/3T, 5/5T and 6.
The Open Beta program for OP3 and OP3T will ending this week and enrolled users will get an OTA update to transition them back to the current stable build of OxygenOS. According to the schedule, the final software update for the 2016 released duo will be till November 2018.
OnePlus 6 officially confirmed for release this summer
OnePlus just announced that its next flagship phone, the OnePlus 6, will be available as soon as late in the second quarter of 2018.
The OnePlus 5T launched in June so the next phone’s release following in late Q2 makes a lot of sense. CEO, Pete Lau, said that the company may stop selling solely through its website in favour of using local networks to distribute the handsets as other manufacturers do. This applies to Europe and the US at least.
Lau also revealed that the new OnePlus 6 smartphone would come packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU. This top-end chip featuring in the phone is pretty impressive when you consider that the OnePlus remit is offering high-spec alternatives to the competition at lower prices. The Snapdragon 845 CPU was only announced in December 2017 and Samsung is expected to be the first to use the new processor for its Galaxy S9.
Few other details were revealed about the OnePlus 6. However, Lau did say “A lot of our users don’t know about the time and resources spent on a phone”. This suggests that despite going more high-end with specs OnePlus will still stick to its mission to undercut the top-end competition for the price.
Expect to hear more on the OnePlus 6 as the release date approaches and the inevitable leaks begin to appear.
