The ‘Tarang Sanchar’ web portal from the Department of Telecom (DoT) was officially launched today after being in development for a considerable period of time. It is dedicated to giving out detailed information on mobile towers.
The website lets users view data from various Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) across the country like operator, technology used (2G/3G/4G) and and their ElectroMagnetic Fileld (EMF) emission compliance. Another purpose for the website was to education the public by clearing misconceptions about harmful radiation from towers as well as giving full explanations of various technical terms. Additionally, there are various sections on the website displaying articles, pamphlets and videos on the subject matter.
Users can fetch information about their local tower by heading over to the website and registering with their name, address, email and mobile number. They can also request an EMF emission test for a particular tower by paying a fee of Rs.4,000 online. The local Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) field unit of DoT will conduct checks and submit the report to the person who requested the testing to the done.
