Publisher Bethesda Softworks unveiled the first gameplay trailer for Prey during QuakeCon 2016. Developed by Arkane Austin, the first person sci-fi shooter debuted during E3 2016.
The game is a reboot completely divorced from Prey (2006) developed by the now defunct Human Head Studios. The company was developing a sequel to the game in 2011 which was unfortunately canned by the publisher.
The new game re-imagines the franchise by adding psychological horror to the formula. Set in the year 2032, Prey plants you in the shoes of Morgan Yu, a survivor stranded on a space station orbiting the moon after an experiment gone horribly wrong. Stuck in a rock and a hard place, Morgan must survive the hostile aliens actively hunting him to uncover the truth behind everything.
The player can gain alien abilities to develop a combination of powers and upgrades to suit their playstyle. Items can be crafted with blueprints while gadgets and tools found lying around can be used in inventive ways. The game is shaping up to be an interesting amalgamation of System Shock, Geist and Bioshock.
