Canon has announced the launch of the EOS Mark IV in India targeting a wide demographic of photographers with the company marketing it as an all rounder. Succeeding the EOS 5D Mark III, the Mark IV brings some of the premium features of the flagship EOS-1D X Mark II at a somewhat more affordable rate. It comes with a 30.4 MP full frame high sensitivity sensor, HDR support, Dual Pixel CMOS AF and support for Dual Pixel Raw (DPRAW) format. The latter enables users to adjust snapped images although adjustments are limited to micro level only.
The Mark IV is powered by a DIGIC 6+ image processor and an enhanced noise processing algorithm for shooting in low-light scenes. Canon claims the performance will remain the same across the entire ISO speed range. Improved sensitivity ranging from 100 to 32000 which is expandable upto 102400, ensures that the image quality is of the highest level even when shooting at high ISO speeds. The in-built camera Digital Lens Optimizer (DLO) lets users process and optimize JPEG files for chromatic aberration, peripheral illumination and diffraction correction. The camera can also shoot dynamic and fast moving subjects because of high speed continuous shooting at 7.0 FPS. It also has 61 points selection, reticular AF system and 41 point cross type AF. The inclusion of EOS iTR AF (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition Auto Focus) and 1,50,000 points RGB+IR metering sensor allows users to accurately track a moving subject across all supported AF points while utilizing face recognition and a colour tracking algorithm.
Users can shoot 4K movies at 30FPS with an aspect ratio of 17:9. They can also shoot at Full HD quality at 60p, expandable upto 120p. Canon boldly claims that the footage shot in DCI 4K is suitable for cinematography and commercials. The 4K videos can also be extracted as JPEG images at a resolution of around 8.8MP. The touch shutter function lets photographers click a photo by simply tapping on the touch enabled LCD screen to focus and shoot. The Intelligent Viewfinder II can also be used to check and adjust shooting functions without diverting their focus from the subject. The Mark IV is dust and water resistant with a well protected exterior having a rubberised coating ensuring a stable non-slip grip.
Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity enables users to transfer content from the device to external devices via FTP or FTPS service. Users just need to download the Camera Connect app or upload the images directly to social media websites. The embedded GPS records location data of images without the need of requiring an external unit.
The updated EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens comes with improved optical performance along with flare and ghosting suppression. There is also an optional BG-E20 battery with the same durability as the camera.
The EOS 5D Mark IV has been priced at Rs.2,54,995 for the body only. Bundled with the EF 24-70 mm f/4L IS USM lens the price gets bumped up to Rs.3,06,995 while the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM IS II USM increases it slightly to Rs.3,24,995.
