Sony took to the stage at MWC 2017 to bring a portable projector that turns any surface into an interactive Android display. This short throw laser projector with 13MP is not stuck in the concept stage but a product you’ll soon find on the shelves.
The unassuming metal box has dimensions of just 5.3×5.6×2.7 inches using smartphone hardware and Liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) laser with autofocus having 100 lumens brightness and a 4000:1 contrast ratio. It packs in 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, microSD support for memory expansion, two-way stereo speakers and a built-in battery running on Android Nougat.
The touch controls work with the use of Infared array and 60fps camera. A 23″ display having HD resolution (1366×768) with 10 point multi-touch is projected when the device comes in contact with a surface. So in practice it can be used for a variety of tasks like painting, games, drawing etc. where a small group can participate.
There isn’t much hassle with setting it up either as the device has autofocus, auto rotation and auto keystoning taking care of configuration. All of this comes at a hefty price tag of €1,499. Watch it in action below.
