Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Review

November 11, 2020 by T3 Gaming

Miles Morales makes an exciting case for another Spider-Man
From Rs. 3,999; PS4, PS5

“With great power comes great responsibility” were the famous words of Uncle Ben to Peter Parker, aka the original Spider-Man who stays committed to the words by fighting crimes in New York City. However, the battle with Rhino at the start of the latest Spider-Man adventure and the fact that there’s Miles Morales, the new Spider-Man, Parker gives himself a well-deserved break as he jets off to Europe with his girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson. Even a superhero needs his downtime, but this transfer of responsibility of protecting New York from a seasoned hero to a teenager feels like the training wheels are taken off for Morales and he is competing in a city-wide race with champions.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

This is how Morales feels too, which the first few missions depict. He’s constantly trying to match his role model, only to be reminded that he needs to create his distinct Spider-Man identity and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales does it beautifully. As you progress through the story, Miles gets comfortable being recognised as the new Spider-Man and his ego gets a big boost when an NPC after one of the missions calls him the “Harlem’s Spider-Man”.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Although major plot events in both the Spider-Man games are interconnected, Spider-Man: Miles Morales branches out to keep the game focused in and around Harlem. A new company called Roxxon has arrived in town with a new form of energy that is cleaner and safer, but we know how tall claims turn out to be, right? It’s the same here, and between finding the actual truth about Roxxon’s new energy claims, saving fellow citizens and fighting a new supervillain, Tinkerer, the story is more or less predictable. There aren’t any twists that will keep you at the edge of the seat but still good enough to keep you engrossed with its fast-paced action. The campaign lasts around 6-7 hours of web-slinging action or a little more if you are a completionist who takes off the time to finish the side missions like saving a cat or gas explosions, to name a few. The thing I like about Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is how it introduces new things to do on the map. There are collectibles, thug crimes to fight and other challenges, all laid out on the unlocked map. There’s a lot to explore and find some easter eggs, which is best to experience yourself instead of spoiling it here.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Insomniac nailed the first Spider-Man game with impressive traversal mechanics, and Miles Morales matches up to it. You can see the lack of fluidity when Miles slings across the city because of his inexperience but makes up for his visually impressive air tricks and confident jumps from rooftops. Players can fast-travel to locations, but frankly, it’s faster and easier to sling around the city from one skyscraper to another. Also, a great way to enjoy the breathtaking views.

Speaking of views, the city looks beautiful as it did in the original Spider-Man, but the major difference is the time at which the events in the new game takes place. The game is set around Christmas and you see the shimmering lights to snow-filled streets, making the city of New York a visual treat during winters, irrespective if you are playing on a PS4 or a PS5. However, if you play it on the PS5, you will be able to take better advantage of features like ray tracing, DualSense haptics and more.

Another thing that separates this game from the previous is combat. While the buttons are the same for basic attacks and dodge, Miles Morales’ distinctiveness comes from the fact that he’s got two special powers up his sleeve. First is the Venom Punch that Miles uses to apply lethal force in an intense fight or use the invisibility power when needed to act discreetly. This balance of aggression or handling things delicately gives players the freedom to approach an enemy, however, they want, even if it is for a limited time.

The incredibly detailed Spider-Man suits are not as expansive as the first game, but the selection is still pretty solid that can be unlocked via missions or purchased with the points you collect throughout the game. Many suits come with an added advantage, which can be customised with visor and suit mods to make them more useful during a fight.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is yet another feather in Insomniac’s cap that feels like an apt introduction to the new Spider-Man. Although I would have liked the game to be a little longer, this game delivers on a few things one looks for – a good story, gameplay mechanics and visuals.

RATING 4/5
WE’RE IMPRESSED Visuals, combat
WE’D IMPROVE Story length
THE LAST WORD Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales expands the Spider-Verse with a short but good story, great graphics and gameplay.

Sony reveals PlayStation 5 design with two SKUs

June 12, 2020 by T3 India

While the official release date of the long-awaited PlayStation 5 is yet to be revealed, Sony, however, did reveal the the PS5 by showing-off its elegant and futuristic design, and some exciting new games which also include some iconic classics. Here is everything we know about the PlayStation 5 which is set to release later this year during the ‘Holiday’ (Thanksgiving/Christmas) season, which is also when Microsoft plans to release the all-new Xbox Series X.

Firstly, there will be not one, but two PS5 systems: one with an Ultra-HD Blu-Ray disc drive and a disc-less digital version, enabling users to play games through digital downloads. However, Sony mentioned that the presence or absence of the disc drive won’t affect the gameplay experience. But, there is a slight difference in the design, as the system with the disc drive does have a slight evident bulge.

Now, we can take a sigh of relief because with months of rumours, leaks and more, we finally know what the PS5 looks like. With a bold, unique and extremely stylish design, Sony has moved away from the traditional black-coloured systems to a mix of white and black, the latter being the more dominant colour. The outline of a blue light throughout on the console and controllers gives the console a futuristic feel. In the reveal trailer, it really does look stunning and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.

Apart from the two PS5 systems, the reveal also showcased impressive PS5 accessories. The DualSense controller, with a similar elegant design, also has a charging station. Additionally, Sony also unveiled Pulse 3D wireless headphones, an HD camera and a dedicated PS5 Media Remote, all of which mirror a similar design, washed with white and black like the console.

When it comes to the specifications, we know that the PS5 has a in-built 4K Blu-Ray player, 16GB of GDDR6 memory with a superior AMD Zen-2 processor with 8 cores at 3.5GHz. The PS5 is also ‘backwards compatible’ which means that users will be able to play “most” PS4 games on it. The PS5 comes with a custom 825GB SSD internal storage and boasts of a AMD RDNA 2 GPU.

More so, Sony also revealed several new games set to release on the PS5 including the enhanced and extended GTA V, which is set to release in 2021 (on the Xbox Series X as well). In their livestream, named ‘The Future of Gaming Show’, PS5 revealed the following big titles:

NBA2K21, Spiderman: Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil VIII: Village, Horizon Forbidden West, Hitman III, and a remake of the 2009-classic Demon’s Souls, along with many more. Watch the entire video-presentation here.

2020 has been precarious, largely. Even though the pricing of the PS5 isn’t known, experts do believe that it could be priced north of $450, but only time will tell. But, for all gamers and enthusiasts out there, we know that if you’re saving up for it, this uncertain and overwhelming year can end on a good note, apart from the safety and well-being of everyone else.

Take charge in a Viking quest in the all-new Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

May 1, 2020 by T3 India

Always bringing something new to the table, Ubisoft’s best-selling game franchise – Assassin’s Creed – is set to release towards the end of 2020, the exact release date is still unknown. The new game is called Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in which fans and gamers across the world will experience a brutal Viking quest for the first time ever on an Assassin’s Creed game.

Assassin’s Creed was first released way back in 2007, and has gone through numerous iterations ever since, with stories taking players through different characters in a vast number of environments – from Ezio’s journeys across the Italian landscape to 18th century America to the historical backdrops of Greece around 430 BC. Now, in 2020, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will take the players on an all new adventure set around ninth century A.D. against the open-world backdrop of England’s Dark Ages.

Players can choose to be a male or female version of Elvior, the plot’s protagonist who is a Viking raider, determined to protect the clan she/he leads – who were driven away from their home in Norway across the icy North Sea – against unjust kingdoms and royals of different parts of England. Rather than a classic stealth game play approach, the reveal trailer, however, shows us the RPG-style of game play in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla similar to what players experienced in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. We’ve all heard or seen how brutal the wars and battles of Vikings are and in this new game, players will experience exactly that with a revamped combat system that includes the ability to dual-wield weapons for assault!

Apart from other apparent character customization like hair, gear and more, players will also have to wisely choose their responses and dialogues as different choices will result in different outcomes – thus the onus is back on the player to think and play this out smartly!

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia and Windows PC on Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store. Additionally, the Gold, Ultimate and the Collectors Editions will be out as well.

Players can pre-order the digital copy on PC and the retail copy on PS4 and Xbox One. For more information, visit the Assassin’s Creed website.

PlayStation’s ‘Play At Home’ initiative is offering celebrated games for free!

April 16, 2020 by T3 India

As a gift of gratitude towards everyone who has co-operated and abided by the need of the hour, which is to stay at home and practice social distancing, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) President and CEO Jim Ryan announced that PlayStation will be providing free games to all users and establish a hefty fund to support independent and smaller gaming studios under the ‘Play At Home’ initiative.

Through this initiative, PlayStation hopes to brighten up a few hours at home by offering free games such as the entire Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection and Journey. These games are now available as free digital downloads for a limited time from Thursday April 16, 2020 from 4:30 a.m. IST up until Wednesday, May 6, 2020. This is surely, more than a generous offering to those who have missed out on playing and to those who wish to take a stroll down memory lane through these breath-taking games, which have been digitally remastered for the PS4.

The award-winning Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection consists of the three fantastic titles created by developers at Naughty Dog, namely, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the great Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and the rich Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Nathan Drake’s inclination to go off-the-beaten-path in these gripping action-packed and treasure-hunting games will keep you stuck to your couch for hours.

Released on the PS4 in 2012, Journey is a wonderful game that will keep you hooked throughout the protagonist’s adventures and also succeeds in teaching the player a lot about life. Seasoned players will know. This is too good a game to miss out on, especially since it’s free.

Additionally, realising the trouble faced by independent and smaller gaming studios during the pandemic, SIE have also earmarked $10 million to support them. More information with the details will be out soon.

It’s great to see that during such uncertain times, people are coming out to support each other in every way possible and PlayStation’s ‘Play At Home’ initiative has definitely created more than a few smiles around the world.
