Nikon develop the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S and NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8

Nikon India Private Ltd.  announce the development of the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S, a fast mid-telephoto prime lens, and the NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8, a slim wide-angle prime lens, for the full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras for which the Nikon Z mount has been adopted.

The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S is part of the S-Line* NIKKOR Z lens series, and realises both superior rendering performance and large, and beautiful bokeh. It expands possibilities for users capturing portraits in areas such as weddings and fashion.

The NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8 achieves outstanding slimness and lightness, as well as high rendering performance, making it an ideal lens for advanced amateur photographers who take their camera everywhere so as not to miss a moment.

Nikon will continue to pursue a new dimension in optical performance while meeting users’ needs, contributing to the development of imaging culture, with the hope of expanding possibilities for imaging expression.

New firmware v2.0 arrives for Nikon Z7 and Z6

Nikon has released the latest firmware for Nikon Z7 and Z6, their full-frame mirrorless cameras. Version 2.0 is said to further enhance their performance with the main features being eye-detection AF (AutoFocus) with still-image shooting, extension of the low-light AF detection range and addition of AE (AutoExposure) tracking capability to the continuous high-speed (extended) mode.

Eye-Detection AF with still-image shooting automatically detects and focuses on human eyes in the auto-area AF (AF-S, AF-C) mode. If there are multiple human subjects in a shot, the multi-selector or sub-selector can be used to select the eye upon which the camera should focus. This allows focus on the intended individual even when looking through the Electronic Viewfinder. It also works when the subject’s face is partially covered by another object as well as when their pose changes. Once clicked, the user can directly zoom in on the eye and press the ‘OK’ button to check if it is indeed in focus.

Faster autofocusing occours when capturing dark or dimly lit scenes both stills and videos. The low-light AF detection range extends down from −1 EV to −2 EV with the Z 7 and from −2 EV to −3.5 EV in the Z6. Additionally, Z6 will also be able to autofocus with darker scenes as the available low-light AF detection range will be extended from −4 EV to −6 EV.

Earlier auto exposure was locked with the first shot in a burst of high-speed continuous shots happening at approximately 9 fps in Z7 or 12 fps in Z6 when using continuous high-speed (extended) mode. Now support for AE tracking in continuous high-speed (extended) mode has been added, enabling the cameras to track exposure just as it does focus (AF tracking). This ensures all images captured with a burst of high-speed continuous shooting are in proper focus and exhibit optimal exposure even when the brightness of the scene changes.

The new firmware can be downloaded for free from Nikon’s Download Center where users will be prompted to follow the instructions provided to successfully install it.

Nikon’s new flagship camera is the D850

Originally unveiled last month, Nikon has revealed the Indian sale date for their brand new flagship DSLR at an event in the capital today. The D850 has been markedly improved in comparison to the older D810 from the company.

The flagship camera features a 45.7MP full-frame CMOS sensor without an optical low pass filter so that sharpness is preserved in photos. It makes use of Nikon’s in-house EXPEED 5 image processor enabling full resolution 7FPS burst shooting getting bumped to 9FPS with the add-on battery pack. It is quite versatile including a wide ISO range of 64-25,600 which is expandable to ISO 32 and upto ISO 102,400. It also comes with a 153 point AutoFocus system and 99 cross sensors for continuous shooting. While it can snap at 4K UHD, it can also be used for 8K time-lapse. The 3.2″ touchscreen LCD on the back is tilt-enabled and has a 2359k dot resolution.

The DSLR has been built using a rugged magnesium alloy body that has been weather sealed. Additionally, there is built-in WiFi and Bluetooth for SnapBridge that supports image transfer even when the camera is not powered on.

Going on sale from 6 September, the body is priced at Rs.2,54,950 while the lens kit with the AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR will cost Rs.2,99,950. A Jealiot Runner 0702 DSLR backpack and 64GB UHS-1 SD card will be bundled free with each purchase of the D850.

Launch offers include a free AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G prime lens when buying the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm lens or 200-500mm lens with the body or kit. Another offer includes the free AF-S VR 70-300mm lens when purchasing the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70 f/2.8G ED lens with the body or kit.
