As upgrade cycles go shorter, companies are releasing successive devices faster than ever. Xiaomi today announced the upgrade to its most successful series – Redmi Note. The ninth-generation Redmi Note phones boast the same pocket-friendly price tag and are packed with features.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max have a similar design but they differ in some parameters like the camera megapixel count, RAM and ROM options.
Let’s talk about the similarities first. Both phones come with an Aura Balance design that puts the full focus on the display at the front. The dot-notch display is a thing of the past as the new Redmi Note 9 devices come with a punch-hole display that houses the front-facing camera alongside the 6.67-inch FHD+ 20:9 IPS display. They are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, back and the camera and features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Both are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G processor, 5020mAh battery and come with other handy features like P2i coating, infrared blaster for universal remote control, reinforced corners for improved durability and dual pyrolytic sheet to keep the thermal temperature down.
Interestingly, both phones also feature ISRO’s NavIC navigation system that will improve the time to get a navigation lock compared to other technologies like GPS, GLONASS or BeiDou.
The differences are few but impactful. The Max variant is understandably, the top-end phone in this series, which means it also gets the best RAM+ROM options like 6GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB compared to Redmi Note 9 Pro’s 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB.
The cameras are also different. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max comes with a 64MP quad-camera array versus the Redmi Note 9 Pro’s 48MP quad-camera setup. The remaining three sensors, however, are the same – 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro and 2MP depth. The front-facing camera on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max boasts a 32MP sensor compared to Redmi Note 9 Pro’s 16MP.
The final difference is in the choice of bundled charger. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max will come with a 33W charger in the box while the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max will come with a 18W charger.
Redmi Note 9 Pro Max will be available in three colour variants – Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue and Glacier White in 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB storage variants for Rs. 14,999, Rs. 16,999 and Rs. 18,999 respectively from March 25.
Redmi Note 9 Pro on the other hand, will be available in the same colour variants in 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB storage variants for Rs. 12,999 and Rs. 15,999 from March 17.
We have been using the Redmi Note 9 Pro for the last few days and while you will have to grab our April issue to know our verdict, our first impression is positive. Xiaomi has maintained a lead in the sub-20k segment with its Redmi Note series and this has all the features to keep them at the forefront.
