Google’s Play service is undergoing major changes. Google+ login has been dropped in favour of Gamer ID consisting of a unique ID profile and avatar system similar to Steam, Xbox Live and Playstation Network. Currently, 40 preset avatars are available which are expected to increase in the near future along with the choice to customize them.
After setting up the Gamer ID profile, users can control what information they share or make private. This includes things like hiding gaming activity and toggling the Gamer ID to view a user’s email address or real name. However, the biggest difference is that the user only needs to login once instead of logging in for each game individually like before.
Changes to the login system and games transition will be rolled out worldwide over the next week.
